Most of the time, the soaking doesn’t come from the “Big Drop”, but from some of the smaller drops and some of the twists and turns. Riders report everything from not getting wet at all, to getting totally soaked on Splash Mountian. If you sit in the front of the ride, you have a descent chance of getting wet, especially if you have very large (like Dad) people riding in the front. You make your way through scenes where the rabbit is chased by the fox and the bear. Where he won’t be bothered by Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear (say that 5 times fast.) Bluebird and Br’er Rabbit are sitting around chatting one day, and the restless Br’er Rabbit decides he needs to leave the safety of the briar patch and find his “Laughing Place”. Splash Mountain starts out with Br’er Frog telling guests that they will be taking a wet ride with a big drop. It’s a nice place to be on a hot Florida afternoon. Here you walk through a nice cool Chickapin Hill. The “Mountains” in the Magic Kingdom have the longest rides of all the rides in the Magic Kingdom. It’s a good thing, because everyone usually has to wait a while. Waiting in line for some of Disney’s rides can be as much fun as the rides themselves. It makes for a great picture which you can buy for a measly $49.59 (or something like that.) What makes this ride special is the anticipation of the “Big Drop”. In 1946, Disney released Song of the South, a story about a rabbit and being chased by a fox and a bear and all the follies that followed. Uncle Walt’s boys have taken a good story and made it better. “The new concept is inclusive - one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year.Splash Mountain is one of the Magic Kingdom’s busiest attractions. “The retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today,” the blog post states. In a press release on the Disney Parks blog, the Disney company makes oblique reference to the controversy surrounding the ride and its source material. A petition, “Retheme Splash Mountain to Princess and the Frog,” garnered more than 20,000 signatures. While some Disney fans have lobbied for Song of the South to be released, arguing that it is a crucial part of film history, over the past few years there’s been a growing effort among Disney fans to campaign for Splash Mountain, which opened in 1989, to be rethemed. It’s also unavailable on the streaming service Disney Plus, with CEO Bob Iger saying at a shareholders meeting that the film is “not appropriate in today’s world.” While the company has not officially pulled the film, it has never been released on home video, leading to many fans erroneously referring to it as a “banned” movie. Despite such criticism, Disney re-released the movie four times in movie theaters between 19.
